What is the Coffee-thon?
The Coffee-thon is a friendly competition for coffee drinkers.  The person who consumes the most coffee (or other caffinated beverage) wins -- absolutely nothing.  We will, however, allow the winner unlimited bragging rights until the next competition.

Coffee-thon History
The 1st Annual Coffee-thon was created in July,1992 by a few employees at LaserMaster Corporation. They noticed that everyone in the department drank a lot of coffee and that this resulted in higher productivity and a general sense of well being compared to the rest of the company (placebo group).  They also found, but could not substantiate scientifically, that coffee could cure cancer in small rodents and insects and caused less friction between mechanical parts.*  Another side-effect in humans:  improved urinary tract function.

One day these pioneers decided that coffee was so good, there ought to be a Coffee-thon to encourage maximum coffee use. That Friday, one employee brought in a huge bag of bagels, another brought in a personalized coffee mug with the Coffee-thon logo on it.  LaserMaster supplied the brew.  The competition was on.  A crude tally on a white board kept track of how many cups each employee drank throughout the day. The excitement was catching.  As the day progressed more and more employees became involved. The winner consumed 26 cups in a period of nine hours!**

The Coffee-thon was so successful it is now an annual event. Although many of the original participants have moved on to other jobs, the tradition continues. One day, we hope to become an official event at the olympics.

Coffee-thon 1998
This was the first year we decided to include anyone passing by on the net. We also added a few more qualifying beverages including Espresso (Cuppuccino, Latte), Cola (Coke, Pepsi) and Citrus (Mountain Dew, Surge).  In 2000, we added the "Blendy" category for our friends in Japan!
Click on the 'Register' button to sign-up. You will not be able to update your beverage count until game day: Friday, July 31, 2009.

Good Luck!
